ATTENTION: Parents Of Neurodivergent, Strong-Willed Or Sensitive Children Aged 4–8

Are You Worried That Criticism, Exclusion, or Struggles at Home or School Are Impacting Your Child's Self-Esteem?

There’s a critical window before age 7 when your child’s core beliefs are being wired for life.

Most schools don’t teach kids the truth of who they really are. But stories and personalized letters from a thought-busting superhero can! They are the most powerful (and awesome) ways of helping children develop unshakeable self-esteem.

The stories, personalized letters and other empowering resources in The Truth of You! digital toolkit help children:

develop a strong sense of self-worth and belief in their abilities
feel safe to be themselves
embrace challenges

treat themselves and others with kindness

... and more!

Why this matters so much right now

If your child has ever said things like ‘I’m stupid’ or ‘Nobody likes me,’ you already know how early self-doubt begins.

From ages 0 to 7, your child’s brain is in its most impressionable state.

This means their subconscious is soaking up messages — not just from what you say, but from what they feel in everyday moments.

When a child experiences exclusion, criticism, or moments of self-doubt, it
can quietly plant the seeds of negative beliefs — often without us even realizing it.

If left unchallenged — these seeds can grow into negative beliefs, like:

💭 I'm not important.

💭 I'm not good enough.
💭 I'm only lovable if I behave.

💭 There's something wrong with me.
💭 I'm not worthy of having friends.

And for kids who are neurodivergent, sensitive, or growing up with challenging circumstances — like family separation or social struggles —these moments happen more often, and leave deeper emotional imprints.

Children are always concluding things about themselves, based on their interactions with us. Yikes!

What your child may carry into the future

If negative beliefs go unaddressed, they don’t simply fade with time.

When children internalise them, research shows they’re more likely to face anxiety, low confidence, and struggles with friendships later on.

Negative beliefs can quietly shape how a child thinks, feels, and responds to the world around them... for life.

They may turn into patterns like:

  • 🤝 Constantly seeking approval or people-pleasing

  • 🎯 Perfectionism or procrastination out of fear of “getting it wrong”

  • 😰 Big emotions or anxiety over small things

  • 🤐 Struggling to express feelings or ask for help

  • 🚧 Avoiding challenges or giving up easily

  • 📉 School struggles, even when they’re trying their best

  • 💔 Feeling “never good enough,” no matter how much they achieve

  • 🌧️ Feeling alone, left out, or seeking validation in the wrong places

  • 🌀 Excessive screen time or other addictions that become hard to stop

If some of these patterns feel familiar, you’re not alone. Many of us carry beliefs from childhood into adulthood — and without even realizing it, we pass these patterns on to our own children... who may pass them on to theirs.

But it doesn’t have to be this way.

You can shape those beliefs before they get locked in

Neuroscience shows that stories are the most powerful way to shape your child’s beliefs about themselves and the world.

✨ And while there’s no peer-reviewed study (yet!) on the power of magical letters from a thought-busting superhero, Hairy Thought-Buster is pretty sure they help too.

Why stories work so well

Stories stick.
They bypass resistance, spark your child’s imagination, and let them connect with characters who overcome challenges — helping them see new possibilities for themselves without feeling like they’re being “taught” or corrected.

Repetition rewires beliefs.
Hearing empowering stories and positive messages again and again creates new neural pathways that become your child’s inner voice. (And children love hearing stories on repeat!)

Emotional safety anchors the message.
Children absorb new beliefs best when they feel safe, seen, and connected. A warm story moment with you — or a letter from a fluffy superhero — can help them feel loved while learning they are capable, worthy, and enough.

Why Hairy Thought-Buster’s letters matter, too:

Sometimes, children believe messages more when they come from someone outside the family.

If you’ve ever tried to reassure your child, only to hear, “You have to say that — you’re my mum!”, you’ll know what I mean.

When a superhero believes in your child completely…
it can change everything.

Imagine if...

✨ Your child is excited to try new things, even when it feels scary.
✨ They feel happy being themselves.
✨ They speak kindly to themselves and others.
✨ They trust their own opinion more than the opinion of others.
✨ They know the power inside them is greater than any challenge they face.
✨ They build friendships and set healthy boundaries.
✨ They grow in confidence, learning to navigate school challenges.
✨ And you feel confident knowing you’re giving them the tools they need to thrive.

This is what The Truth of You helps you create.

📖 A transformative story featuring Superhero Hairy Thought-Buster

The stories bring each self-esteem truth of the month to life, and are written in a warm, relatable way children truly understand. 💛

In each story, a child faces a real-life challenge — like noticing how each of their friends is good at something that they're not good at. This leads to a tough thought:

“There’s nothing special about me.”

That’s when Hairy Thought-Buster arrives — a wise, mythical superhero who gently validates the child’s feelings:

“I can see why you might have had that thought… it’s a very common thought to think!”

With warmth and humour, he busts the negative thought and replaces it with a powerful self-esteem truth, helping the child see themselves in a brand-new light.

✨ By the end of each story, your child will feel seen, understood, and ready to believe
in themselves again.

And each story comes with discussion questions, so you can further explore the theme.

Below is an outline of the negative thoughts that are busted in each month's story.

Why you can't afford to ignore

your child's self-esteem

"It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men." - Frederick Douglass

Early beliefs shape their future.
How your child feels about themselves now will shape how they handle friendships, challenges, and setbacks for years to come. Confident kids are more willing to try, bounce back, and believe in themselves.

🔄 You may be passing on your own beliefs.
Many of us grew up with negative core beliefs like "I'm not enough." Supporting your child’s confidence now helps break that cycle, so they don’t carry the same struggles into their future.

Prevention is easier than repair.
It might not feel urgent today, but waiting often costs more later — in therapy bills, stress, and years of untangling limiting beliefs. Building your child’s confidence now can save heartache (and dollars) down the track.

💚 It helps your family, too.
Raising a confident child brings more calm, connection, and warmth into your home. And it gives you peace of mind, knowing you’re giving them a strong foundation for life.

🌟 It can change generations.
When a child grows up truly believing they are enough, it impacts how they will one day raise their own children, too. By nurturing your child’s self-esteem now, you’re planting seeds that can transform your family for generations to come.

Why Children (and their grown-ups) Love The Truth of You! package

💖

Build Self-Worth That Lasts A Lifetime, Through Repetition

Your child will learn that their value doesn’t depend on being “good,” achieving things, or fitting in. Instead, they’ll begin to feel lovable, important, and enough — just as they are.

And over time, these positive, loving messages become their inner voice — shaping how they see themselves forever.

💭

Helps Children Understand They Are Not Their Thoughts

Using powerful, playful imagery of “busting” tricky thoughts, Hairy shows children that thoughts are just thoughts — they don’t define who they are. This empowering mindset shift is delivered in a way that feels safe, fun, and easy to understand.

Why I created The Truth of You!

Hi, I’m Michelle Lowbeer! 👋

I'm a vibrant, playful creative and children's book author, who loves dancing like no-one’s watching, running in nature, and making children laugh! I live in Sydney, Australia, with my husband, our two beautiful teenage daughters.

I have tendencies towards procrastination and perfectionism, two behaviours that stem from the core belief "I'm not good enough". The Truth of You! is a program I wish I'd had access to when I was a girl!

Here's how the idea for The Truth of You! all started:

It was a hot and sweltering morning in Singapore (as they all are). I was an expat spouse, dropping my kids off to school, when a thought occurred to me out of nowhere: What if a generation of children are growing up with the belief "I'm not important", as they see their parents constantly on their mobile phones?

I promptly distracted myself from this thought by checking Facebook. But the thought persisted.

So I decided to write a children's book about it, because I know that children learn through the power of story. The story would be about a child (Katie) who thought she wasn't important because she observed her parents busy on their digital devices. Then a mythical character would come visit Katie and tell her the truth - that she was important! It's just that sometimes her parents were busy or distracted on their phones.

I needed a name for this mythical character... something like Cinderella's Fairy Godmother. And then the idea struck - Hairy Thought-Buster! He would be a Superhero for young minds who busted children's negative thoughts before they became negative beliefs!

Soon, The Fluffies followed, each representing a positive self-esteem truth. The I Am Important Fluffy featured in my children's book I Am Important: A pehnomelaly.... .

If I could write a story about one of the self-esteem truths - you are important - surely I could write a story about all 12 of them? So I did.

I combined this with my love of writing letters to children (my cousins, nieces and newphes)

What followed from that was The Truth of You!

Combining my love of personal development, storytelling, and empowering children, I created The Truth of You! to help kids challenge tricky thoughts and grow up knowing the truth:

They are important, capable, and enough — just as they are.

With love,
Michelle 💛

I’m a parent, a writer, and someone who cares deeply about how children see themselves.

I'm also a bit of a perfectionist and a procrastinator, as I grew up with the belief "I'm not good enough". So

This all started when I was listening to a parenting program called Parenting the Lefkoe Way. In it, I learned something that stopped me in my tracks:

Children are always forming beliefs about themselves based on their interactions with us.

One day, it hit me:
What if a whole generation of children is quietly growing up with the belief, “I’m not important,” simply because they see us busy and distracted on our phones?

That thought stayed with me. I knew I had to do something.

So I decided to write a children’s book to help kids know how truly important they are. But I needed a mythical hero — someone who could lovingly tell children the truth about themselves, even when tricky thoughts made them doubt it. I wanted a name that sounded like “Fairy Godmother” but felt fun and magical for kids.

That’s how Hairy Thought-Buster was born.

Because every child deserves to grow up knowing the truth:

They are important, capable, and enough — just as they are.

And every parent deserves to feel confident, knowing they’re nurturing that truth in their child, one small, loving moment at a time.

With love,
Michelle 💛
